PAPUA NEW GUINEA Single Origin | Region: Simbai - Balus Kopi (Airplane Coffee) - Smallholder Farmers

A velvety, full bodied coffee from Papua New Guinea. Discover the rich flavors from this cool island origin in the Pacific. 

Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a newcomer to the specialty coffee scene. The rich volcanic soil and mountain elevations are excellent for growing coffee but the small farmers of the region have had to overcome some geographical challenges to get their delicious crop to us.

Balus Kopi means airplane coffee. The terrain of Simbai in the Western Highlands Province of PNG is so intense and remote that the coffee farms are only accessible by foot or light aircraft. Importer Volcafe has set up a transport system and covers part of the cost of chartering the planes to support over 4,000 small farmers to be able to export their coffee and make a sustainable living from their crops.
